5 Ways to Discover your Next Favorite Book
If you’re anything like me, you’re scouring the internet for your next fantasy romance fix. Let’s face it: reading fantasy romance is addicting! From high stakes adventures, mythical worlds, and love interests who would burn the world for you, I know it’s your favorite genre to read as well as mine. I mean … you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t. You might be stuck right now, wondering when you’ll find the next book that’s just as great as the last one.
You’ve searched the internet and every Goodreads list you could find to come up with nothing. To make matters worse, you’ve only run into big name problematic authors whose beliefs don’t align with yours and treat diversity as tokenism in their novel. If you are stuck, you should keep reading.
5. Broaden your scope:
Fantasy romance is such a large genre with many subgenres. If you're looking for another exciting fantasy romance after being swept away by one set in a medieval inspired country, give paranormal fantasy romances a try. Perhaps you might stumble upon your next book boyfriend who you imagine prefers your blood over everyone else’s. If you don’t enjoy paranormal fantasy romance, there’s monster fantasy romance, cozy fantasy romance, gothic fantasy romance and so many more. You’re bound to find something.
4: Go Indie:
When’s the last time you read a book by an independently published author? Indie authors, in the sense that a single person, the author, is publishing the book, have widespread popularity in the fantasy romance genre. The indie market is massive! You’re very likely to find an indie author who is writing just what you want to see.
3: Just Try It:
Sometimes, you just have to start reading. The book you choose might actually surprise you. If the synopsis promises most on your book wish list, just try it. Being surprised is the best part about reading!
2: Search hashtags:
Chances are, you have a social media account. Head to the search engine on said account and search the hashtags in the genre you’re looking for. Typing “fantasy romance”, “fantasy romance book recs”, “indie fantasy romance”, “diverse fantasy romance” and the like into the search engine will populate thousands of posts of character art, book recommendations, and author promo. It’s actually quite fun!
1: Be Open:
The most important key to finding your next favorite book is to be open. Try reading the “new to you” author you saw on Instagram last week. Maybe give the new indie author release a try. The worst that can happen is you DNF’ing the book, and sometimes, that happens. But at least you tried it, and at least you’re a step closer to finding your next favorite. ✨
